Schmidt Resigns as Apple Board Member

The CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt, has resigned himself from the board of Apple, Inc. In a press release put out by Apple, Steve Jobs sites that “potential conflicts” caused Mr. Schmidt to resign as Google moves into the consumer computer market in addition to the smartphone arena. This month would have been Mr. Schmidt’s third year anniversary on the board.

This announcement comes a few days after a widely publicized fight to get a Google Voice application on the iPhone App Store. There is no evidence to suggest that Schmidt’s resignation was a response to this.

Mac News Weekly will have more on the Schmidt resignation this weekend.

Roadtrip 2009 - Day 1

For the next two weeks (or-so) I will be keeping a daily blog of our adventure. My father, my brother, and myself are spending the first few weeks of August traveling the great-lakes (ish) region of the United States and parts of Canada.

Besides torrential downpours at times, the trip from home in the southern part of New York up to Ithaca, New York was a good start to the trip. Much to my surprise, I got a substantial amount of my first summer reading book done in the car (I’m reading Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein).

We got into Ithaca in the early afternoon and took a stroll around the Cornell campus and Collegetown (from what I gather it is where all the Cornell kids hang out during the school year, but it was quiet today). We had a really nice dinner at a local place called Stella’s - I ate parmesan french-fries and pasta with sausage.

The plan for tomorrow is to drive up to Niagara Falls in the morning and do all the touristy things there. I also plan on finishing Frankenstein on the way up.

**Look for a new posting tomorrow night. In the future, I will post about how we have organized the car to make the most out of our space, how we are traveling high-tech, and finding the best hotels.**

Last night was terrible! We had to change rooms in the middle of the night because the folks staying in the room next door were making too much noise!

In the morning, we got the tour of CNN and visited the Georgia Aquarium.

We left Atlanta at about 11:30AM and drove as long as we could (well, my dad could). We are now in a hotel room in the middle of Virginia.

Oh, I ate at Crackerbarel today for dinner! Fried Steak!

We are going to be home around noon tomorrow.

We left New Orleans early this morning and drove straight to Atlanta, Georgia. On the way, we hit so nasty storms. We felt like storm chasers!

We got to Atlanta late this afternoon and headed to Ted’s Montana Grill.

Tomorrow, we are going to go on the CNN Tour, Georgia Aquarium and start on our way back home.

New Orleans is an amazing city. We woke up this morning and had the best breakfast yet at Cafe Du Mond. Iced coffee and beignets. Yum! Then we took a taxi to Tulane University and bought various items in their bookstore.

We rode the trolley cars to lunch at a local burger place and took a nap. After the nap, we got the car and drove down to the devastated Lower 9th Ward (where the hurricane hit).

Finally, we had a fancy dinner at Emeril’s place here in New Orleans.

Tomorrow, we are going to Atlanta.

Today, we left Dallas early in the morning (yet the thermometer seemed like it was noon). We traveled throughout the day to New Orleans, LA.

Once we got to New Orleans, we checked into the hotel, took a well deserved rest and then headed out for dinner (I can’t remember the name). I had fried aligator!

After dinner, we headed to the famous Preservation Hall to listen to some Jazz music.

Tomorrow, we are going to see the sights that New Orleans has to offer.

We miss Dallas! Thanks Cali Lewis and Neal Campbell for a wonderful time!

Sorry for not updating! Its been very busy!

On Thursday we went to the ball game, and yesterday and today, I had an “internship” at GeekBrief.

Tomorrow we are going to hit the road for New Orleans.

This morning we slept in, ate breakfast at the hotel and drove a minute to the Clinton Presidential Library. It was SPECTACULAR (both the building and the contents)! I like when I can learn in a state-of-the-art way. President Clinton was the president when I was born, but I really didn’t know too much about him, now I do!

Then we drove to Hot Springs, AR and had lunch at the Pancake Shop. Mmm breakfast for lunch (it couldn’t be considered Brunch). Then we drove all the way to Dallas where we were tired and had a quick dinner.

Tomorrow we are going to sightsee around Dallas and go to a Texas-Rangers game (vs. Yankees!)
